Karen Thornton came to Richmond Law in 2015 from the University of Maryland, where she was Acting Executive Director of Leadership Gifts and played a significant role in closing out the University's $1 billion campaign. She brings over 16 years of experience in development and external relations, as well as program development and implementation, having founded and directed three signature entrepreneurship programs at the University of Maryland. Before joining the University of Maryland, Dean Thornton played the French horn as a professional musician, teaching at Towson University in Baltimore, Md., and at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla. She also served as principal horn with the Jacksonville Symphony. Early in her career, Dean Thornton studied the horn in London as a Fulbright Scholar and was a member of the Orchestra of the Royal Ballet of London.
