Classes

Casework is enhanced by twice weekly class sessions with a focus on building a foundation for a successful criminal practice.

Classes include involve case rounds, lecture, simulation, guest speakers on juvenile court practice, trauma, competency, cognitive bias, the school to prison pipeline, education issues, how to secure and utilize and expert, understanding autism and attention-deficit disorder, and resiliency. Students will leave the course with a portfolio of motions, letters, and briefs they have prepared for the clinic and will learn how to address ethics questions commonly faced by criminal lawyers, to prepare sentencing guidelines, and how to challenge eyewitness identification and false confessions.
