Social and Athletic Activities
Richmond Law provides plenty of opportunities to relax outside of the academic realm. Monthly gatherings called Down Unders hosted at the school and local restaurants provide students a chance to unwind with peers and faculty.
The Social Committee of the Student Bar Association also sponsors a costume party at Halloween and Barrister's Ball (commonly referred to as law prom).
Other student organizations also sponsor social events throughout the year including barbecues, casino nights, charity auctions, bowling, sporting events, speed dating, poker nights, a libel show called Law RevUE, and happy hours.
Law students dominate in a wide range of athletic competitions, from our very own flag football league to intramural competitions with the undergraduate students.
The law school flag football team is in its third year, consisting of a fall and spring season. The league is made up of twelve teams with eight players per team. Approximately four teams are all-female teams, while several others are co-ed. Each season culminates in a championship game held at a down under, with the winning team earning a trophy and bragging rights for the next semester.
The Sports and Entertainment Law Society sponsors a 3-on-3 basketball tournament as well as a golf tournament each year. Plans are currently in the works for a tennis tournament with the law school alumni.
In terms of intramural athletics, within the past two years, law school teams have won the 5-on-5 basketball tournament, indoor soccer league, outdoor soccer league, dodgeball tournament, volleyball tournament, softball league, and the swimming and diving competition.
Law students also frequent nearby driving ranges and golf courses as well as the recreation facilities here at University of Richmond. The facilities include a gym, tennis courts, as well as exercise classes (some of which are even taught by law students!) For the non-athletic students, there is a pool table and foosball table in the law school student center and casino nights are held at the law school each semester.
