A note from Ann T. Burks, L'84, president of the Law School Association:
As President of the Law School Association, I encourage you to reconnect with a school that is thriving on so many fronts. As we begin the 2011-2012 academic year, we are excited that a new dean has assumed her duties. Wendy Collins Perdue began on July 1, and the LSA looks forward to working with her and to continuing to work with Dr. Edward L. Ayers, president of the University, who has been so supportive of the Law School. The breadth and scope of course offerings are without comparison in the law school’s history, with increased emphasis on intellectual property, environmental law, and family law, to name just a few areas. We have much to be proud of in that the school has maintained the core traditions of the past while transitioning to be the very best in modern legal education.
Working with the Law School Association is a great way to stay involved with your law school! You are encouraged to bring your experience from your career as a lawyer or judge to help in the education of law students. This aid occurs in many different ways. LSA members serve as resources for the law school, perhaps commenting on how well the current curriculum is serving its graduates as they begin to practice law. You may be asked to meet with prospective students or current students. You may judge moot court or client counseling competitions. You may serve as a speaker for a student group or serve on a panel offering advice to students on career development. There are so many ways LSA members serve as mentors to University of Richmond Law Students.
Another rewarding aspect of working with the LSA is its promotion of good fellowship among all UR Law graduates. Come join us; you will find it rewarding in so many ways to get involved with the LSA!
