On-Campus Interviews (OCIs)

The Career Services Office coordinates all aspects of the fall and spring On-Campus Interview Program.  Employers who will participate in OCIs at Richmond Law complete an informational form and the Career Services Office transfers this information to Symplicity and generates an e-mail directed to the appropriate class(es) (e.g. 1L, 2L, or 3L) informing students of the posting, the application or bidding requirements, and deadlines. When employers have selected the students they wish to interview, the CSO is notified and then designates rooms for the interviews, coordinates the student sign-ups and keeps students apprised of any scheduling changes.

The months of August, September and October are fall OCI months for second- and third-year law students nationwide. (NALP guidelines prohibit first-year law students from seeking employment prior to December 1.) Law firms and other employers that know a year in advance what their summer clerkship and entry-level associate needs will be participate in the fall OCIs to search for the most qualified law students. Each year, many of these employers visit the Richmond Law campus to interview students who have submitted their requested application materials (usually a resume, grade list and writing sample) and who have been selected for an initial interview by the employer. On-Campus Interviews also take place in the spring and include opportunities for first-year students as well as 2Ls and 3Ls.

OCI interviews are usually 20 to 30 minutes in duration and provide the employer an opportunity to further screen applicants. (The CSO Handbook provides additional information on specific OCI issues in the section titled “Your Job Search.”).

The CSO staff is available to answer any questions about the OCI rules, requirements or logistics or to discuss other job search options. Call (804) 289-8638, e-mail or come by to schedule an appointment.

Tips to promote a successful recruiting experience:

  • Notify the Career Services of all callbacks and offers (including offers from summer employment) in a timely manner.
  • When you accept an offer, notify the Career Services, complete the employment survey in Symplicity, send letters to other employers where you are under consideration and cease all interviews.
  • For 1Ls and 2Ls working during the summer, complete the Summer Experience Survey in Symplicity upon returning to school in the fall.

You can review our “Policy Against Discriminatory Practices,” which participating employers are required to acknowledge and return to us before recruiting on campus, below:
