Students working in the Juvenile Law and Policy Clinic will work on current legal and policy issues affecting children in the delinquency, educational or child welfare systems in Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region (D.C., Maryland, West Virginia and Puerto Rico). Students in the clinic will not provide direct representation for clients but will instead work on legislative, research and advocacy projects to effect systemic change. Projects will arise from current events affecting the juvenile justice system, projects being undertaken by the Mid-Atlantic Juvenile Defender Center, issues that arise from cases in the Children’s Law Center, and requests by agencies, courts, or legislative committees focusing on juvenile justice or child welfare issues. The clinic is open to second and third year students.
