Admissions

The Admissions Committee consists of faculty, students, and the Assoc. Dean of Admissions. The Committee meets each year to review selected admissions files to make admissions decisions about those files. The Committee also submits recommendations to the full faculty concerning admissions policies. Requests for readmission by students who are academically dismissed also are heard by the Admissions Committee.

Appointments

The Appointments Committee reviews and screens candidates for a position on the full-time faculty, and recommends to the full faculty those candidates who should be given more careful review. The Committee also makes recommendations to the faculty about areas of curricular coverage needing attention as faculty hiring decisions are made.

Curriculum

The Curriculum Committee reviews the course offerings and degree requirements at the Law School, on a regular and continuing basis. The Committee receives proposals for new course offerings, or modification of credit hours for existing course offerings, and makes recommendations to the full faculty about such curricular changes. The Committee also periodically reviews the overall curriculum, to propose changes in required course offerings, the introduction of new areas of concentration or specialization, or other programmatic changes in the curriculum.

Diversity

The Diversity Committee consists of faculty, staff, students and alumni. The Committee’s mission is to increase diversity in the Law School and to make the Law School a welcoming place for all faculty, staff and students. The Committee engages in analysis of diversity, provides forums for discussion of diversity, promotes activities relating to diversity, and serves as a clearinghouse for diversity issues in the Law School. While the Committee has no formal role in resolving diversity-related matters, it can advise about existing procedures for resolution of complaints, such as the sexual harassment procedure, and also plays a role in informally attempting to change existing practices deemed inconsistent with a diverse law school

Library and Technology

The Library and Technology Committee reviews the function, needs and effectiveness of the Law Library and of Information Services in the Law School. The Committee addresses needs in this area, both on its own initiative and as directed by the full faculty, and makes recommendations to the full faculty.

Promotion and Tenure

The Promotion and Tenure Committee reviews candidates for promotion and tenure among the full-time faculty, and administers the information gathering process which accompanies that review. The Committee makes recommendations to the tenured full-time faculty on proposed tenure decisions, and makes recommendations to the full-time faculty on proposed promotion decisions. The Committee also makes recommendations to the full faculty about proposed changes to the policies and procedures for tenure and promotion review.

Self-Study Committee

The Self Study Committee is charged with the development of a draft of the Self Study for the Law School to present to the Law Faculty for its comments and discussion.  The Committee also is charged with development of surveys to solicit input regarding the Law School’s operations, strengths, weaknesses, strategic planning, etc.  After consultation with the Law Faculty, the Committee is charged with finalizing the Self-Study and submitting the document to the American Bar Association at least six weeks prior to the site visit.

Student Affairs

The Student Affairs Committee deals with issues related to student activities and student services. The Committee undertakes review of such issues and makes recommendations for action to the full faculty. Areas of responsibility include Career Services, the Honor Court and Honor Code, and various student organizations. The Committee also proposes a slate of recipients for student graduation awards to the full faculty.
