Family Law Clinic

The Family Law Clinic is a live, in-house clinic which provides legal assistance to families and children in the city of Richmond.  Law students represent clients under the supervision of Assistant Clinical Professor of Law and Director, Dale Margolin.  Areas of representation include abuse and neglect, divorce, custody, child in need of supervision/services (CHINS), public benefits, housing, and domestic violence.

The Family Law Clinic is a full-year course for second and third year law students.  Students participate in all aspects of legal representation – in and out-of-court advocacy, client interviews, drafting and filing court documents, and legal writing and research. In order to prepare students, the Clinic also involves simulation activities.  Students should have completed Family Law prior to participating in the clinic.  Please see the FAQ for Students for more information.

The Family Law Clinic is also a multidisciplinary collaboration with Virginia Commonwealth University.  Graduate students and faculty from Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Social Work and Department of Psychology help the legal team provide holistic service and referrals to clients.

The Family Law Clinic is located at the University of Richmond's new Downtown Campus, on 626 East Broad Street (7th Street). Several GRTC routes stop near the Clinic. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 to 5.
