Incoming SBA Prez Bags First Post-Election Victory

By John Cunningham

President-Elect Wendell Taylor, the second year [now third year] T.C. Williams student elected to serve as President of the Student Bar Association (SBA) for the 1997-98 school year, opened his administration with a bang by keeping with a major campaign promise and securing parking for "J" Lot students in the formerly designated "L" Lot that runs parallel to the bottom "J" Lot across from the tennis courts. While many students stood awed by the swift success of Taylor's authority, the President himself promised that this accommodation was only one of many he plans to secure to make life easier for students at T.C. Williams.

Apparently Taylor had been negotiating with the school administration for re-designating the lot while serving as an SBA Council Member prior to his election as President. He claims that the policy decision regarding the new "J" Lot only incidentally coincided with his election to office. Whether that comment reflects humility or reality, students remained impressed. David Kazzie, a first year law student [now in his second year], expressed his excitement about Taylor's seemingly undaunted desire to make the school administration more accountable to the students by pointing out that "it's difficult to imagine a school 'politician' actually acting on his campaign promises so quickly, especially with the busy schedules everyone has as exams approach. This move [securing the parking] is certainly a sign of good things to come." Other students agreed and Taylor's approval rating is currently soaring somewhere in the high 80's.

As far as Taylor's future plans for his administration, he has informed Juris Publici that he will submit an outline of his 1997-98 agenda for publication in the next issue. In the meantime, the SBA at T.C. Williams appears to be in very capable hands - despite the misfortune that those hands belong to a Cowboys fan.
