1L Softball Team

Our rag tag group of 1L's (The Harry Carey's) began our march towards the A-league championship this Tuesday night, March 31 against Sigma Chi. The Harry Carey's were able to pull out a victory in the last inning. We went into the bottom of the fifth down 8-6 and the first three batters were able to bring home the win. Keith Sturges (the nor'easter) lead off with a homer followed by a single by Charles Quagliato (Q) and the victory was sealed by a towering home run by Jim McLemore (Jimmy Mac), the game's co-mvp. Tony Rhodes (t-bone) was the games other MVP, which he earned for his stellar pitching performance. It was an excellent victory and a great way to start off the season. We know Harry would be proud. We have dedicated the season to the late great Harry Carey and are hoping to bring him home the championship that he never had. The free T-Shirts are also a strong motivating factor.

Our second, Wednesday, April 1, game did not have such a story book ending. We went against the ever difficult Pika's who were still stinging after suffering a defeat at our hands during basketball season. We were only able to put one run on the board and mercifully the game was ended by the 10 run rule so that we could all get home to watch South Park. The games MVP was the Pika's pitcher who was able to just about shut us out. He had a towering pitch which at times reached upwards of fifteen feet. Combined as a team we struck out more than we did combined trying to get women to go home with us after Barristers Ball. Fortunately, Harry Carey, our motivating force, is quite used to losing and I am sure he will forgive us for this little slip.

Our next game is Monday April 6 against the Arrowheads, the first non frat team we have seen. We are looking forward to redeeming ourselves and hope to be on the winning side of the ten run rule this time.
