A "Strong" Learning Experience

I know that its a corny title but a last name like that just cries for a pun. All kidding aside, Professor Graham Strong is a gifted professor, with the ability to truly "reach" students. After "visiting" T.C. Williams for the past 2 years, and speaking at graduation in May, Professor Strong will leave T.C. Williams for George Washington University. At GWU, a recent entry on the law school "Top 20," he will teach Evidence, Criminal Law and Professional Responsibility.

Professor Strong is one of the most loved and respected professors at this school, anyone lucky enough to have been one of his students will tell you that. However, the true test of his abilities was demonstrated this semester, when he received a standing ovation by his Environmental Law class.

When I spoke with Professor Strong, who, grew up in Vienna, Virginia, he said that getting to know the student body here has been a "wonderful experience." He has found T.C. Williams to be a "real community, much more like a family than most law schools." Professor Strong has taught at a number of high ranked, well-respected law schools, including Cornell, and he says that the abilities of the students here are equal to the abilities of the students at those schools. He also said that " the students make teaching here very enjoyable."

On a personal note, I cannot say enough good things about Professor Strong. He is not only one of the best, most accessible professors I have ever had, he is an incredibly nice, open person with a great deal of character. He makes learning interesting and has an innovative teaching style. The students at GWU certainly are lucky!

"Professor Strong was one of the finest professors I have ever had in my educational career. In Evidence and Criminal Procedure, he presented the material in a clear manner and always had time to answer questions outside of class if they arose.

Through his presentation, Prof. Strong made the material interesting. Unlike any teacher I have ever had, I actually looked forward to going to his class. His ability was such that he inspired me to pursue a career in criminal law.

If there was a position available for which Prof. Strong was turned down, the selection committee should be condemned. He was a valuable asset at T.C. Williams and will continue to be at a school both lucky and smart enough to hire him. I would rather go to a law school with a number two-hundred rank and have teachers like Prof. Strong, than go to a top ten school and have instructors with half his talent."

-Andrew Kolp

"Professor Strong was the first professor who approached me at the orientation barbecue and said hello and made me feel really welcome at this school. I had just moved here the week before from
Florida and didn't know a single soul except for my roommate whom I just met two days before the orientation began. He's a professor who not only can teach but he's a warm person who will be sorely missed...."

"Here's what I have to say about Graham Strong. Learning in law school has been likened to drinking from a fire hydrant. However, Professor Strong had a knack for articulating his lesson, without spoon feeding, that created a much more managable flow of information. Judged among the entire faculty, tenured and not, Professor Strong is among those with the greatest teaching skill. Nobody is more helpful inside or outside of the classroom, and I regret that next year's Richmond students won't have the opportunity to take a class with him. May his old karate injury always pulse in pain!"

-Charles Bonner

"I just wanted to say that I think professor Strong is the best teacher I've had in law school. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to have class with him. It's too bad that the school is letting him go."

-Craig Curwood

"Professor Strong is definitely one of the best teachers I ever had . . . since preschool. He is a good teacher because you can tell he really loves what he is doing. It's not that he likes the prestige of being a law professor, but he loves teaching, and he cares about his students. When your teacher is that enthusiastic about teaching, you become enthusiastic about learning. Most of the students that has ever had the privilege of being in Professor Strong's class -- at least everyone that I ever talked to -- have said that Professor Strong is one of the best Professors around. So many of us cannot be wrong.

I would hate see Professor Strong go. I wish there was something else we can do to keep him here. I feel sorry for people who did not have the opportunity to have him as a professor."
