New Face at the Reference Desk
Some of you may have noticed that we have a new addition to the Reference Desk on Wednesdays. Andrew Winston, a specialist in competitive intelligence and knowledge management, began working in the Law Library in the fall as part of a practicum in his Masters in Library and Information Science at Drexel University. Although he has now graduated from Drexel, Mr. Winston has continued to work with the library. Mr. Winston obtained his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Virginia and practiced in a large New York law firm for several years before moving to Richmond, where he practiced at LeClairRyan for eight years. His transactional practice focused on public and private securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and other corporate and securities matters.
Law Library Welcomes New Librarian - Amy O'Connor
Amy O'Connor began working in the Law Library as Technical Services & Digital Resources Librarian on August 30, 2010. Prior to her new position, she worked at the Law Library as a Library Associate in Cataloging. Ms. O'Connor earned a B.A. in History from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Masters in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida. Prior to her position at the Law Library, she worked in libraries at the John Tyler Community College Library, the Glen Allen Public Library, and the VCU Libraries.
In this new position, Ms. O'Connor manages the Law Library's digital resources, including technical aspects of making certain that the resources work properly and helping make certain that faculty, students, and other Law Library users know about the many digital resources available via the Law Library and how to use those resources effectively and efficiently. Additionally, she will work some hours each week at the Law Library Reference Desk. The Richmond Law Library staff welcomes Ms. O'Connor.
Law Library and Law School Celebrate the AALL Presidency of Joyce Manna Janto
Joyce Manna Janto, Deputy Director at the Law Library, assumed the presidency of the American Association of Law Libraries at the AALL annual meeting in Denver, Colorado in July, 2010. Ms. Janto's term as President will conclude in July, 2011.
On August 16, nearly seventy guests from the Law Library, the Law School, the University, and Richmond-area law libraries joined Ms. Janto at the Law School Commons to congratulate her and celebrate with her. Joining Ms. Janto in this photo from the reception is Timothy Kaine, current law school faculty member and former governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Law Library Welcomes New Librarian - Heather Hamilton
Heather Hamilton began as the Reference and Research Services Librarian at the Law Library on Monday, April 5. Prior to joining Richmond's Law Library, Ms. Hamilton was the Foreign, Comparative and International Law Librarian at Louisiana State University Law Center in Baton Rouge, LA. She is a graduate of the College of William and Mary's Law School, having received her J.D. in May 2009. She received her Master's in Library Sciences from Drexel University and a B.A. in English Literature and a B.A. in History from the University of Cincinnati.
While in law school, Ms. Hamilton worked as a Law Library Fellow at the Wolf Law Library at William and Mary's Law School. She provided reference services to students, faculty and other users of the Wolf Law Library and assisted faculty with research projects. At Richmond Ms. Hamilton will provide reference and research services to students, faculty and other users. She also will teach two sections of Legal Research in the first-year Lawyering Skills program.

Janto to Serve as President of AALL
Joyce Manna Janto, L'89, Deputy Director of the Law Library, will begin her term as President of the American Association of Law Libraries in July 2010. She is currently serving as the AALL Vice-President.
The AALL, a 5,000-member association, was founded in 1906 to promote and enhance the value of law libraries, to foster the profession, and to provide leadership in the field of legal information. Its members include law firms, law schools, corporate legal departments, courts, and government agencies.
After Janto becomes AALL president in July, she will lead the Association's education, advocacy, and leadership activities, and she will preside over its 2011 annual meeting in Philadelphia.Hours

Library hours and special closing announcements are also available on the library hours phone line, (804) 287-6552, and are posted in advance on the board by the library's entrance.
Library closing procedures commence approximately 15 minutes prior to closing time. All patrons should complete photocopying, return reserve materials, re-shelve books, and check out library materials 15 minutes prior to closing.
