Richmond Law Welcomes Emroch Lecturer Mehrsa Baradaran

August 19, 2021
UC Irvine scholar to address “The Color of Money”

The University of Richmond School of Law will host Mehrsa Baradaran as the 2021 Emroch Lecturer. A professor at UC Irvine School of Law, Baradaran writes and teaches about banking law, financial inclusion, and racial inequality.

Baradaran will join the Richmond Law community for a virtual event on Wednesday, September 15, at 6 p.m., exploring “The Color of Money.” In her work, Baradaran challenges the long-standing notion that Black capitalism and community self-help is the solution to the racial wealth gap. Examining the fruits of past policies and the operation of banking in a segregated economy, Baradaran will explore how only bolder, more realistic views of banking’s relation to Black communities will end the cycle of poverty and promote Black wealth.

This event is part of the Emroch Lecture Series, which brings engaging and topical speakers to Richmond Law for the benefit of students, faculty, and the local community. Learn more and see past speakers.
