SENECA TSANG, L’23, IS SERVING HER COUNTRY IN THE ARMY JAG CORP AFTER MAKING WAVES AS AN APALSA MEMBER.

As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re sharing how some of our Class of 2023 Law Spiders are impacted and empowed by their identities. Students like Seneca Tsang, L’23, who is trading her graduation regalia for dress blues as she joins the Army JAG Corp.

Why did you decide to attend law school? Why Richmond Law, in particular?

A background in international public policy, foreign affairs, and law enforcement made me realize that I wanted to make an impact on a more personal level with individuals rather than trying to influence the masses as a whole. Law school allowed me to combine my education and experiences to explore the intersectionality of law and policy so that I may effectively counsel and advocate by making the law more accessible. Richmond Law was distinctly poised as a center for excellence due to its proximity to the courts, businesses, and the JAG School. Additionally, the community of faculty and students provided the collaborative environment that most often helps me succeed.

How has being a member of APALSA benefited your Richmond Law experience?
Being a member of APALSA has enabled me to learn from other attorneys who have had similar experiences. It has also given me mentors who have taught me to recognize the influences of my own culture and navigate situations where cultural tensions may arise with tact and grace.

What are your career plans?
I will be joining the Army JAG Corp following graduation and couldn't be more excited for the adventures ahead!

May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. What does being an Asian American lawyer mean to you? What impact do you hope to make on the legal system after you graduate?
I seek to break barriers for women, for immigrants, and for those who simply want to create a community where we grow and learn from each other. At the end of the day, I want to inspire future generations to be kind and courageous leaders who always seek to do what is right.

In one word, how would you describe your experience at Richmond Law?
Incredible.
