Certificate in Intellectual Property for J.D. Students
Richmond Law students have the chance to earn a Certificate in Intellectual Property, as part of the regular course of studies for their JD degree. Earning the IP Certificate is similar to completing a major as an undergraduate student. The general requirements are as follows:
-
Each student must take the Intellectual Property Fundamentals course plus twelve additional credits from a designated group of IP-related courses.
-
Each student must write his or her upper-level writing requirement on an IP-related subject.
-
Finally, each student must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 in the core Certificate courses.
As a general rule, we do not advise students to focus on IP to the exclusion of the other important electives. IP practitioners, like all attorneys, need a well-rounded legal education. Earning the Certificate will therefore require some advance planning.
See the Certificate’s official requirements for more details.
