Visiting Research and Scholar Program

The University of Richmond School of Law welcomes visiting researchers and scholars from throughout the world. Visiting Researchers enjoy access to library resources at both the William Taylor Muse Law Library and the Boatwright Memorial Library. They use an assigned space for research, and can access the University’s wireless network via their own laptop computers. Special tours and orientation sessions are available to Visiting Researchers; the sessions are designed to help Visiting Researchers maximize effective use of research resources available at the University libraries.

Visiting Researchers are welcomed to attend the many general academic and other public events at the law school and elsewhere in the University. They may also audit one course with permission of the instructor.

Although there are opportunities to interact with the law faculty, Richmond Law’s Visiting Researcher program is intended for visitors with a well-defined, independent research agenda. Although each visiting researcher has a faculty sponsor, the sponsor’s role is limited.

To apply to be a Visiting Researcher, please submit the following no later than April 15 for the fall term and September 1 for the spring term:

The fee for this program is $4,500 per semester, or $9,000 for both semesters.

If accepted, Visiting Researchers at the School of Law will work with the University’s International Education Department on visitor status and visas.

Visiting Researchers are not employees of the University and are not, therefore, eligible for insurance benefits or to purchase insurance through the University. If accepted into the program, the Visiting Researcher will be required to purchase private health insurance in order to comply with J-1 visa requirements.
