Get to know our new faculty: Professor Robin Meier
What brought you to Richmond Law?
I grew up in Richmond, just a few miles from campus, and my siblings and I all went to the University of Richmond for our undergraduate studies. Additionally, my mother was the administrative assistant in the athletics department for over thirty years. It would be an understatement to say the school holds a special place in my heart. As such, once I decided to change career paths and enter academia, the University of Richmond felt like the right place to be. I love the collegial atmosphere of the faculty and students.
How would you describe your career path to this point?
After clerking on the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, I tried big law for a few years in Washington, D.C. I ultimately decided to go into public service, and I spent most of my career litigating as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia.
What has surprised you about Richmond Law?
I have been pleasantly surprised by how collegial the students are with each other and how much interaction faculty have with their students.
What advice would you give to current Richmond Law students for the coming year?
Trust your instincts. Do not get too caught up in what your fellow students are doing to perform well in law school. Everyone studies and learns differently, and the comparison game can be overwhelming and generally unhelpful.
What would you recommend that students do outside of law school?
Take advantage of the James River System. It has great hiking and biking trails.
Anything else you’d like to add?
My husband Dominik is originally from Switzerland, and we have two kids (Elena and Danny) who are both in middle school. We love to travel when we get the chance. We also have one giant dog (Pete) and two sibling cats (Gnome and Nessie) at home.
