University of Richmond School of Law Receives Top Award for Building Renovation
We are pleased to announce that the University of Richmond School of Law has received the 2025 Greater Richmond Association for Commercial Real Estate (GRACRE) Award in the “institutional project” category.
Presented at the 24th Annual GRACRE Awards Ceremony, the award honors the law school’s multi-year building renovation which began in 2021 and was completed in August 2024. The $27.5M transformation has reimagined the law school building as a modern, welcoming environment designed to better meet the needs of the entire Richmond Law community.
“This award is a meaningful acknowledgment of the intentionality and vision that went into creating an inviting space that supports academic excellence, innovation, and collaboration among our students, faculty, and staff,” said Dean Wendy Perdue. “We’re honored that our building was selected among the many remarkable projects across the Greater Richmond region.”
Highlights from the renovation include:
- Providing additional study space, including for individual and group-focused work with a variety of seating and lighting options.
- Creating a “Law Commons” to serve as the community hub for the building and a green roof, the first-of-its-kind on campus.
- Upgrading classrooms and the Moot Court.
- Relocating clinics and offices housed in a different building into the law school.
“We are delighted to now have an award-winning facility, and in the end, it’s really our students who win,” said Perdue.
The project was nominated for the GRACRE award by general contractor, Kjellstrom + Lee.
