Janto honored with Hall of Fame award
Joyce Manna Janto, deputy director of the Muse Law Library, was awarded with the American Association of Law Libraries’ Hall of Fame award at the organization’s annual meeting in Austin, Texas, in July. The Hall of Fame recognizes members “who have made significant, substantial, and long-standing contributions to the profession of legal information management.”
“Joyce’s dedication, commitment, and passion for her work make her a most deserving candidate of the Hall of Fame Award,” said Wendy Perdue, dean.
Janto has served on the Law Library faculty since 1982, when she joined Richmond Law as acquisitions librarian. She became associate director for collection development in 1989 – the same year she earned her J.D. from Richmond Law – and was promoted to her current role of deputy director in 1991.
Janto’s commitment to her field extends outside the law school, where she served as president of the American Association of Law Libraries, in addition to various other leadership roles with the organization. She was president of the Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries and the Virginia Association of Law Libraries.
“Membership in AALL and the opportunities it has afforded me have allowed me to grow as a librarian,” said Janto.
“I’m proud and excited that AALL is recognizing Joyce’s numerous contributions to the profession,” said Roger Skalbeck, associate dean for library and information services. “Joyce works tirelessly and enthusiastically to promote law student learning and mentor peer law librarians. Thanks to Joyce for her service, and thanks to AALL for honoring her accomplishments with an induction into the AALL Hall of Fame.”
