The Richmond area has a wide variety of affordable housing options for every kind of law student. Whether you’re looking for the quiet of the suburbs, the energy of the city, or anything in between, there’s a place for you!

Richmond Area

With so many factors to consider, choosing a part of the city to live in can be difficult. The number of options grows as you expand your search to the surrounding counties of Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover. Here is a basic intro to the Richmond region and some of its bigger neighborhoods. The University of Richmond is located in Westhampton or the West End.

Very Apt

Richmond Law has partnered with VeryApt, an emerging startup in the real estate tech industry that aggregates unbiased reviews from our law students. Through VeryApt you can also access an interactive platform featuring:

  • the VeryApt Housing Guide which showcases top apartments and neighborhoods based on submissions and feedback from current students
  • a discussion board/roommate postings for interacting with other students, asking questions about moving, finding roommates, etc.
  • a marketplace where you can buy/sell furniture, textbooks, and more!

This portal will be limited only to Richmond law students. Please sign in using the email you used to apply.  If you have any problems signing in, please email us lawadmissions@richmond.edu

Check out the VeryApt Portal here!

Please note that most students will not begin posting roommate postings until May or later. If you find someone compatible, get in touch and go from there! Many students meet future roommates by attending admitted student functions or connecting through the Class Facebook group.

Apartment Guides

While we are not able to specifically recommend or endorse any properties, we have compiled popular locations for you to use as a resource for beginning your search.

2025 Apartment Guide

Please note that the listings in this database do not purport to be comprehensive, nor do they reflect any screening on the part of the law school. The inclusion of a housing opportunity should not be understood as any sort of recommendation or endorsement of that opportunity. Any user of the Housing Guides has the full responsibility of investigating the adequacy of any listing. Renters – especially future lawyers – should also be informed of their rights. Learn more about Virginia Tenant Rights before signing a lease or entering into a rental situation by consulting the Landlord Tenant Handbook.

Roommates

Many students choose to live with other students to help cut down on costs.  We encourage you to use these resources to find others.  Please note that most students will not begin posting roommate postings until May or later.
