Library renovation will enhance law student studies

Richmond Law students will return to school in August to find some new amenities and a fresh look in the Muse Law Library. Construction started on the second floor of the library in late May 2018.

Renovations will feature three new group study rooms and additional open spaces for law student study, plus a sound-proofed area for private phone conversations. An added entrance on the second floor will also streamline student and faculty access to the library. A suite of several new faculty offices will complete the renovation.

“We talked extensively about student needs in this project. We’re excited to expand the capacity for collaboration, while adding additional types of study areas,” said Roger Skalbeck, associate dean for library and information services. Plus, he added, “No books were harmed in this project.” However, a collection of Canadian materials was removed for digitization and expanded access.

One thing that won’t change? Every law student still gets a carrel. “We know that having a private study space is an important resource for our students,” said Dean Wendy Perdue. “And we’ll continue to guarantee a carrel to every entering student at Richmond Law!”

Recognizing the importance of this project to our students, Richmond Law has received a lead gift from a generous alumnus, but additional gifts from alumni and friends will be necessary to cover the total cost.
