Richmond Law's Summer Fellowships Reach 131 Students
Guaranteed funding program continues to support law school community
The University of Richmond School of Law awarded 131 Summer Public Interest Fellowships in 2021, totaling $522,318 in stipend funding.
Since 2013, Richmond Law has guaranteed a summer of funding to students working in unpaid public sector positions. Students who are particularly interested in pursuing a career in the government or non-profit fields often receive a second fellowship. In 2021, Dean Wendy Perdue increased the amount awarded to each student to $4,000.
“The ability to guarantee a fellowship means that all Richmond Law students have the opportunity to gain real-world legal experience during their time at law school,” said Janet D. Hutchinson, Associate Dean for Career Development. “This is a huge benefit to our students. Plus, it helps public sector employers secure top-notch legal assistance.”
This year’s awardees have secured internships ranging from the Department of Justice to the Supreme Court of Virginia, from the U.S. Coast Guard to the International Rescue Committee.
