Creating a Stronger Community for Richmond Law Latinx Students

October 17, 2022
Richmond Law’s newest student organization offers community and support to Latinx students.
Richmond Law’s newest student organization moves the school one step closer to its goal of creating a greater sense of belonging for all students. The Latin American and Hispanic Law Organization (LAHLO) launched this fall, and seeks to bring together the various Latinx and Hispanic groups within Richmond Law and to support and promote Latinx identity and culture throughout the community.

“Creating LAHLO was important to me because I wanted to strengthen the Latin American and Hispanic community here on our campus,” said Kiara Anguiano, 1L student and inaugural president of the organization.

“My hope is for LAHLO to be a means of representation for all of the Latin American and Hispanic law students at the university,” she continued. “Introducing this new layer of presence helps to expand the diversity and inclusive energy on our campus and Richmond as a whole.”

This student-led initiative aligns with the law school’s implementation of President Kevin F. Hallock’s five key areas identified as guiding lights for the university, which he shared in his inaugural address in April 2022: academic excellence, belonging, access and affordability, well-being, and experiential learning and community engagement.

“We are pleased to support this student initiative that reinforces and strengthens our efforts to make the school more inclusive and one in which everyone cam have a strong sense of belonging,” said Dean Wendy Perdue.
