Law Professor Receives International Acclaim

University of Richmond Professor of Law Chiara Giorgetti has received international acclaim for her role in developing a mechanism that will bring reparations claims against Russia for its war in Ukraine.

Giorgetti serves on an expert group appointed by Ukraine President Zelensky that helped draft the resolution which makes this possible. The resolution was honored by the Global Arbitration Review and received the organization’s award for best legal development at its annual award ceremony in Paris last month.

“I am very proud of this work,” Giorgetti said. “We are now continuing working to apply the resolution concretely.”

The resolution, which passed by 94 votes to 14 (with 73 abstentions), recognizes that Russia must be held accountable for any violations of international law in or against Ukraine.
